Compact with the Saskatchewan Health Care System

Patient and Family Centred Care
  • I/We will strive to always provide Patient and Family Centred Care.
  • I/We will treat all patients and their families with dignity and respect and be culturally sensitive.
  • I/We will attempt to always consider how to provide health care service that will bring value to patients.
  • I/We will strive to provide Health Care that is free from discrimination of any kind.
  • I/We will respect and honour any reasonable directive of care.
  • I/We will strive to communicate effectively and maintain a two-way communication channel that is acceptable to the patient.  I/We will provide support where necessary if there are any kind of communication barriers.  I/We will ensure all communication is provided in a timely fashion.
  • I/We will strive to respect patient's wishes when reasonable even if I/We disagree with them.
Population Health

  • I/We will pro-actively try to improve the health of the whole population of Saskatchewan.
  • I/We will look at social determinants of health that affect health outcomes and wherever possible strive to eliminate any factors that negatively affect the health of the population of Saskatchewan.
Access
  • I/We will strive to always provide care at a time and place of the patient's choice where reasonable.
  • I/We will always be on the lookout for obstacles that block access to care and give my/our best effort to remove these obstacles.
Quality and Safety

  • I/We will continuously evaluate and measure the health care services that I/we deliver so that I/We can know whether I/We am/are providing quality health care.
  • I/We will attempt to always improve the quality of the service that I/we provide.
  • Quality will be a way of doing things at any time in any setting where health care is provided.
  • I/We will put checks and balances in place to ensure that no patient is harmed by a preventable cause.  I/We will strive to limit where possible any unforeseen or unpreventable harm that might occur and keep patients well informed of these.
  • I/We will keep up to date with the latest evidence and knowledge on how to provide care.
Technology

  • I/We will use available technology to it's full potential.
  • I/We will be open to trial new, affordable technology if it will improve any aspect of health care delivery to patients.
  • I/We will strive to always keep the human connection when interacting with patients and using technology.
Accountability and Appropriateness

  • I/We will strive to always consider the balance of what is best for the patient in front of me with what is best for the rest of the population with the resources available to me/us.
  • I/We will not use resources indiscriminately and keep in mind that every one that uses the Saskatchewan Health Care System should have fair and reasonable access to resources when appropriate.
Privacy and Confidentiality

  • I/We will only collect information from patients that is necessary to provide health care.
  • I/We will share information only with other health care providers that is part of the circle of care for a specific patient when consent was given by that patient or representative.
  • I/We will ensure that Privacy and Confidentiality does not become an obstacle to provide the possible health care to the patients of Saskatchewan.
  • I/We will keep complete and readily accessible information on aspects of health care regarding my/our patients that can easily be obtained by patients on request.
